Success at Brewster Baptist Church rests on these pillars:
A great preacher
Superb marketing
Everyone does something
Continuous adult education
Constant communication
The reputation of the Senior Pastor for preaching is
well-known in the community, based on my conversations
with friends who belong to other churches. Many, as
I did, have attended BBC occasionally to hear him
preach. While he has a definite gift; he also works
hard at planning his presentations.
BBC markets itself in its presence in the community,
opening the doors to many cultural and civic
organizations. Brewster votes at Brewster Baptist
Church. Yesterday, I attended a performance of
the Cape Cod Community Orchestra at BBC.
The marketing is also internal through constant
communication to church members in announcements
before the service, in the service bulletin, on the web
site, and in weekly email. The activities described
are meetings of all sorts of church organizations,
and most important, of sessions of adult education.
The latter is omnipresent. Opportunities for learning
occur between Sunday services, and on weekday
evenings, at the church and in homes in small groups.
My proposed small group is slow in getting off the
ground, so to fulfil the requirement that "everyone
does something," I am meeting with the Dean of
Adult Education to find other areas where I may be
useful.
